Yin & Restore : Monthly Renewal

Yin & Restore: Monthly Renewal

Led by: Marie

When: 4th Friday of each month
Next session: Fri, 27 May
Time: 18:00-19:15

Cost: £10. Book here: www.mariewilliamsyoga.com

A monthly class that will take us on a journey of reflection, restoration and energetic realignment through the practice of Yin. These classes will plant subtle seeds of inquiry that lead you to realign with your own personal values and intentions, as well as holding space to restore your energy before the new month ahead.

Yin Yoga is a functional practice that targets the bones, joints, fascia and other connective tissues to optimise their health and optimise range of motion and flexibility. Marie's approach to Yin Yoga comes hand-in-hand with thoughts for reflection and breathwork to regulate the nervous system. Marie believes that in creating an environment to support and nourish the nervous system, there is trust in the release of deep-rooted tension in the physical, emotional and energetic body. These approaches will be supported by Marie's current studies in the field of Yoga Therapy.

Yin Yoga is a floor-based practice of long-held Yin poses that use the support of props to discover the individual's own physical edge of depth. Marie's classes are sequenced to take your body through its various range of motions, in order to optimise the overall function of the joints and health of the tissues. This class is suitable for all levels. No previous yoga experience required as it moves at a slow practice with modifications to suit everyone.

Please Note: Yin yoga typically supports the physical body with the use of props. Therefore, if you are attending the yoga studio, due to current COVID-19 guidelines props will not be provided. Please bring your own selection of props to support the comfort of your practice.
Suggested props: a blanket, blocks, cushions, a bolster
It is not essential to have all props listed and if you are unable to bring props, variations will be offered to support your practice.

Yoga Nidra is a powerful technique in which you learn to relax consciously. It is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. The term yoga nidra is derived from two Sanskrit words, yoga meaning union or one-pointed awareness, and nidra which means sleep. During the practice of yoga nidra, you appear to be asleep, but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. For this reason, yoga nidra is often referred to as psychic sleep or deep relaxation with inner awareness. In this threshold state between sleep and wakefulness, contact with the subconscious and unconscious dimensions occurs spontaneously.

In yoga nidra, the state of relaxation is reached by turning inwards, away from outer experiences. If the consciousness can be separated from external awareness and from sleep, it becomes very powerful and can be applied in many ways, for example, to develop the memory, increase knowledge and creativity. Sessions are also accompanied by the beautiful and healing sounds of Himalayan Singing Bowls and Koshi Chimes which further enhance your relaxation and healing experience.

Join me in the beautiful Yoga Tree Studio for a monthly guided conscious relaxation experience by candlelight.

NB: all props such as mat, blanket/s, cushions, bolsters, eye pillows must be brought to practice as no equipment will be supplied.

Sometimes known as 'Soundbaths', these Sacred Sound Immersions can have numerous benefits;
• They can soothe, purify and harmonise your emotions and feelings.
• They can induce a deep meditative state.
• They can strengthen the immune system.

Alex Birrell Open Yoga Alliance Professionals, UK in new tab
Alex has an MSc in Mental Health and Psychological Therapies and is a certified facilitator of Trauma Center, Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TC TSY).

TC TSY is a relational yoga practice for survivors of complex trauma. Complex trauma can result from early life trauma, prolonged neglect, abuse or violence, or interpersonal harm in relationships with uneven power dynamics.

Survivors typically find that their ability to feel their bodies, their emotions, and their sense of self can become degraded over time, as a result of a natural, adaptive process called dissociation.

TC TSY offers a pathway back to feeling and is now a recognised as an evidence-based intervention for Complex PTSD by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (USA). More information on the evidence base is available on the resources page on her website which can be found below.

For Alex, trauma informed yoga practices provide a sense of grounding in the body that can be an important addition to talking therapy. Our bodies can be both the site of trauma and a powerful place for healing. Alex offers 1:1 sessions, group workshops and 10 week TC TSY courses.

Hi! I'm Hollieann.

One sentence from a class instructor changed my life forever. A few kind, simple words so powerful that they stopped me in my tracks at a time in my life which was full of turbulence and uncertainty.
This began my journey in fitness, cognitive behavioural therapy and self discovery.
This has shaped my approach to coaching both in and out of the studio, and it is my aspiration to be that voice for many others. Starting with assessing our preconceived notions of body image and our relationship with ourselves, identifying limiting beliefs which we may be aware of, but also those which are hiding under the surface. Rebuilding our foundations which shaped our behaviours and how we see ourselves in this world for the rest of our lives, then striving for a future full of strength in both mind and body.

Through freedom of mind, unburdening yourself from past trauma and a true trust; let movement, sound and release be the foundation to each of our practices together in my classes. Embody this empowerment through the rest of your day and join me in a journey of self discovery.

Ivana Prekopova Open Yoga Alliance Professionals, UK in new tab
Ivana shares heartfelt practices of traditional Hatha, Tantra, Yin, Restorative Yoga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Meditation and Ayurveda.

She is over 1500 hrs trained and certified teacher. All of her studies and her personal inner work has created a holistic approach to what she shares...

At the core of her offerings lie an intention. So these teachings, which have been passed on and through her, will inspire your heart and mind to descend into the exploration of knowing ourselves on deeper levels of our being.

You will be invited to welcome yourself into these practices as you are and start from this very place...

To slow down from the busyness of day-to-day life. To quieten our mind, to create a space for deep listening, knowing and to re-connect...

To remember our innate nature which rests in effortless awareness.

For intensifying and, most importantly, sustaining this freedom and creative field through movement, awareness, breath, subtle body practices & self-inquiry.

Whether it is healing, purifying, transforming, inspiring or tapping into the unknown, everyone is welcome.

She believes that with reverence and commitment to ourselves through these practices, Yoga reveals itself and allows us to receive its spark of insight, clarity, well-being and richness to this sacred life.

Weaving these threads together has been, and will continue to be her life's purpose and she looks forward to share this Way of Life with You.

Jaime C.Lam Open Yoga Alliance Professionals, UK in new tab
Jaime was first introduced to yoga in 2012 as a form of work-life balance in modern day's hustle culture. Soon after, Jaime discovered yoga's special ability to connect the mind to the body and has been hooked ever since! Her own yoga practice consists of hatha and vinyasa yoga whilst incorporating iyengar yoga from time to time as well. Jaime completed her yoga teacher training (Yoga Alliance) in Thailand in 2019 and continued her journey as a yoga student and teacher since then.

She now teaches vinyasa classes - her love for vinyasa yoga stems from its perfect reflection of life - respecting and acknowledging the impermanent nature of the world: we enter an asana, we are there for a while, and we eventually leave and enter another.

Jaime's classes are suitable for all levels, encouraging all to respect their bodies. Her classes always start with a breathing exercise to help students focus their minds and to set an intention for their practice. Jaime likes to pay attention to the need of every individual student in her class. Students will complete their practice feeling powerful, grounded, thankful (to their own minds and bodies!) and safe.

Lee Jenkins Open Rolfing UK in new tab
Lee's fascination and relentless passion for movement & bodies has led him to work alongside a diverse range of people from all walks of life.

His career first began as an international photographer where he soon started noticing common patterns and behaviours. He realised that perhaps a lot of the tensions, stresses, anxieties and complaints are somehow related to living in our fast paced modern society.

Lee embarked on 3 years of training with the British Academy of Rolfing®, where he graduated in 2014 as a certified Rolfer.

Whilst training and practicing Rolfing® Lee found his speciality in Rolfing Movement. This inspired him to continue training, this time in Munich over the space of a year with the European Rolfing Association. He graduated as a certified Rolf® movement practitioner in 2016.

Rolfing® is a highly effective method of working with people and their bodies. Involving hands on tissue work, looking at where we are, how we move and exploring movement re-education.
Working towards undoing, letting go and changing old patterns. Developing self-awareness and improving well being when there is tension, pain, loss of flexibility or mobility.

Discover a powerful tool for physical and personal transformation that brings a new quality of life.

Richard Woodall Open Power Living in new tab
Teaching all over the world for nearly 4 years now, Yoga for Rich is all about union and non-duality

He got into the practice when he realised that his body and his mind were often in different places, as much as his thoughts and his feelings of happiness were too.

Yoga philosophy gave Rich the space to live in a more truthful way, in union with his beliefs and ideas of life and existence. Also with more peace and acceptance of self. Living by the heart became a daily practice as well as grounding and finding space, physically and emotionally.

His Vinyasa classes are both dynamic and relaxing. He introduces a modern approach to yoga whilst fully embracing tradition and its beautiful philosophy.

The Yin classes are super super chilled; deep longer-hold postures all on the floor, laying or sitting down. Always taught, from the heart, with beautiful music and philosophical topics.

He's a true believer that yoga is for everyone. We just have to give it a try!
When he's not teaching, he's usually writing, playing the guitar and having a sing song, or finding a beach somewhere to be near the water.

Open Future Fit Training in new tab
Rosie had a fitness mentor who inspired and encouraged her to train with the Future Fit School of Pilates.

Having suffered with a creaky back for years, she found that Pilates strengthened her back and core like no other sport she had tried. She has been delighted with the progress some of her clients have made, in short periods of time, with their balance, posture, core strength, body awareness and confidence.

She likes to fly in the face of convention and try new things and would encourage everyone to try Pilates as their new thing as the benefits are clear soon after starting.

Her classes are inclusive, mixed ability, gentle but concentrated exercise. For the gardeners, the carers, those with sore backs, knees, hips, shoulders... you get the idea!
