Atma teaches a unique style called Bhava Yoga. It is a versatile style that is adaptable to individual needs. Classes will be appropriate whether you are looking primarily for health and fitness, or for peace and relaxation. They are great for first timers, those returning to yoga, or expert yogis.

You finish a Bhava Yoga class feeling light, relaxed, and with increased energy levels. The feeling often lasts for a few days and the inspiration you might take from just one pose can last a lifetime.

Students have reported the practice helping with insomnia, headaches, muscle tension, digestive problems, confidence, back pain, anxiety, joint stiffness (e.g. knees), as well as all the increase of strength, co-ordination, and flexibility you would expect from the practice of Yoga.

Bhava means the essence or feeling of the yoga postures. The ancient sages who created these postures were inspired by heroes and gods from myth, from animals, and natural forms. These forms gave their names to the yoga postures, but often the original inspiration is forgotten. By going back to the original idea, and combining it with modern understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and proper alignment Bhava Yoga gets you the most out of every pose. Not only do you get the physical benefits, the strength, agility, mobility, and relaxation of the various animals etc, you can also get inspired by them. Perhaps you could do with a warriors courage, or an eagles concentration, or the restfulness of a crocodile basking in the sun. Each posture has a secret that you can unlock through practice.

Bhava also means feeling as in mood, so the days when you have energy to spare you can practice more dynamically, and the days when you need to recharge you can practice in a restorative way.

Avril Soards:

'I am an experienced HCPC registered, Chartered Physiotherapist and highly qualified in Pilates. I am also an adult gymnast with two national veteran titles, a rock climber and mother. I am a published research scientist educated at Cambridge University where I received my PhD and a former stunt double.

'I have been teaching Pilates since 2010 and I am committed to using the technique to rehabilitate patients, prevent injury, improve posture, strength, flexibility and facilitate wellbeing. My experience includes the provision of classes ranging from post spinal surgery to dealing with Olympic gymnasts.'

Catherine Grace:

Catherine has been practicing yoga for about 30 years. Studying primarily from the Satyananda Tradition under the close tuition of Swami Pragyamurti , graduating from the 2 year teacher training course in 2005. Catherine taught at theSatyananda Yoga Centre in London for over 7 years, and is now teaching independently. Catherine has also studied to teach yoga for those living with and recovering from cancer. Catherine says that as well as helping keep her mobile, yoga adds richness and depth to life.

Gentle Yoga 60+ is a gentle class tailored to the over 60's whatever your range of mobility. Classes improve body awareness through simple movements that help to prevent and alleviate osteoarthritis, standing postures to help keep active and improve balance to avoid falls, and peaceful relaxation exercises to relieve anxiety.

Charlotte Watts:

Charlotte found yoga after being persuaded by a friend to go on a yoga holiday. Having never done it before, she spent a week practising every day and could not believe how great she felt in the space of 7 days! She says "the effect of yoga on my mind and body was truly transformative, I was relaxed as never before, and had a real sense of being in touch with my mind and body, something I'd never really experienced". Wanting to keep these benefits, Charlotte has regularly practiced yoga since and last year trained as a teacher with Atma Gyanam Saraswati so she could share her experiences with others.

Charlotte's classes are accessible, inclusive and fun. She teaches Hatha based yoga aimed at increasing strength and flexibility whilst using the breath to create awareness and a sense of calm. You can expect to have a good stretch, will probably break a sweat but will leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. Her classes are suitable for all levels.

Elaine Smith:

Elaine has been teaching yoga since her initial training at Yoga Vidya Gurukul , Nashik, India in 2009. Since then, she has also completed the British Wheel of Yoga teacher training and has attained a diploma in Yoga Therapy with Yoga Campus in London. She has also had the privilege of studying with some wonderful teachers and has gained additional qualifications in:

Elaine is offering a weekly class at The Yoga Tree that is designed for people who are experiencing Chronic Fatigue. The class will focus on; gentle mobilization to increase circulation, release tension and maintain strength; restorative poses; deep relaxation; balancing breathing practices and mindfulness meditation. Hamsa Saraswati:

After a 14 year apprenticeship with a little known Lithuanian Matriarchal tradition, Hamsa encountered Self-Realisation in the Middle East. Later, on her travels to India and a near death experience, the call to live a more devotional way became very strong. She now lives Ashram Life and brings her teachings to those who pass that way. With the understanding that to yoke or join with existence, and enjoy a deeper sense of what it means to be Human, can come from any spiritual practice if accompanied by Devotion: Her Academic background includes working as a Front-Line Field Ops Mentor as a Psychotherapist for the United Nations. Hamsa is also an Author; Her book 'Knowledge of Origin' will launch spring 2017.

Hayley

Hayley Matthews is a Rolfer, contemporary dancer and choreographer and Artistic Director of Ensemble Dance Company. Hayley splits her time between Rolfing, performing and making. Ivana

Rachel

Rachel Cross:

Rachel has had a keen interest in Complementary Therapies since the mid 1990's when she was often used as a 'Guinea Pig' by a group at Scarborough College who were studying many forms of Complementary Therapies. After having had acupuncture needles stuck in her, crystals placed on her and been prescribed tinctures to aid self healing, she decided to do some training herself and embarked on her Aromatherapy Diploma. She then subsequently qualified in Indian Head Massage and Reflexology and began practising her therapies from home whilst working part time at the local University.

A move down to Norfolk in 2003 saw Rachel take a change in her career, working one to one with vulnerable people. During this time she still did therapy work for friends and colleagues and has continued to expand her knowledge and skills and qualified as a Crystal Healing Therapist in 2011 and qualified in Deep Tissue Massage and Pregnancy Massage in January 2016. Not one to rest on her laurels, she also qualified as a 200 hour Yoga Teacher in September 2016 under the guidance of Swami Atma Gyanam Saraswati.

Rosanna McKenzie: (Rose)

Rosanna teaches a graceful, flowing Hatha class which can be taken on many levels. There is strong emphasis placed on each individual's unique journey: every class is an opportunity to meet yourself as you are and unfold into the practice as you need.

Having first found Yoga in her late teens, much of Rosanna's 20s were spent in Cornwall under the guidance & mentorship of Andrew Moon, a Scaravelli-inspired teacher & Ayurvedic Practitioner. During the past 10 years a natural journey has unfolded through practices and trainings in Yoga & Ayurveda, most recently taking her to Bali to train with Everett Newall & Katherine Girling in the Tantric Hatha tradition.

Free Spirit Yoga aims to follow these principles in our yoga practice, with influences from Forrest Yoga , Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Hatha yoga we will enjoy a practice that enables the yogi to venture deeper into asanas and try something new. Learning to listen to their bodys and discover its limitations and possibilities. I encourage each individual to understand how their body moves and work with the breath to get deeper into each posture, whilst interacting and having fun offering a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Each class will involve movement in sun salutations, pranayama (breathing) exercises to calm the mind and strengthen the body with a relaxing yoga nidra at the end of class to settle the soul.

"I have been practising yoga myself for over 10 years and trained as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Yoga kept me sane through some very dark times of my life. When I was working towards becoming an elite instructor for Bodybalance my yoga self was reignited and my longing to become a yoga teacher grew stronger. I found Atma in one of his classes and soon decided to join him for 200hr teacher training in 2014. I have experienced many different styles of yoga and have seen the benefits of yoga help not only myself but also many of my students. My style comes from the heart with a free spirit. I teach Hatha Yoga but with influences from Forrest Yoga , Ashtanga and Vinyasa. I like to be lighthearted in my teaching, encouraging interaction and enjoyment with a no fluff approach."

Vanessa offers
  • 1-2-1 yoga sessions for £30.
1-2-1 sessions can be for the complete beginner to get to grips with yoga and how their body works. Or for rehabilitation to help the body move more easily perhaps after an accident or due to chronic illness/disability.
  • Reflexology £30 per hour. Reiki £30 per hour
Reflexology is a treatment on the feet (or hands) which works on different reflexes corresponding to different areas of the body. It is believed that any areas of dis-ease in the body are caused by a block f the free flow of energy or qui. By working on these corresponding areas in the foot you can release the blockage enabling the energy to flow freely and aid a healing response.
  • Various yoga classes thoughout the week, including the Forrest Yoga class, and the Sculp & Stretch class which includes yoga with a lot of Pilates style moves for core strength.
