Open Qualifying organisation in new tab Laurence Mitchell / Laurie / Larry

Laurence is registered as a Senior Teacher with the Yoga Alliance Professionals. His journey in Yoga was almost accidental. It all started on a trip to India with some friends who wanted to go and try out a yoga class. Laurence was initially not so keen on the idea but luckily for him he let them talk him into going. All it took was just those two hours of bending, stretching, and breathing on a wicker mat crawling with ants with some crazy Indian guy (who would become his first teacher), and bam. He was in love with the practice. He had for the first time in his life tapped into something special, the present moment. He had immediately noticed a change in his awareness of the world and he wanted more. This physical experience that he had found on the yoga mat was a perfect match for the study of eastern religious philosophy that he had done at university, and it wasn't very long before he was a dedicated yogi on a mission to learn all he that he could about this ancient mystical practice.

I have created this class aimed at beginner to intermediate students (though of course all are welcome), who are starting or developing their steps in Yoga. There will be lots of traditional Hatha postures and breathing exercises, interspersed with a little philosophy and deep relaxation and meditation exercises. So why not come and join us every week as we safely cover the basics and learn how to build and develop our practice in a fun and engaging way.07931076759

Rolfing® is a highly effective method of working with people and their bodies. Involving hands on tissue work, looking at where we are, how we move and exploring movement re-education.

Open Qualifying organisation in new tab Marie Williams

Originally from Scotland, after six years living in Italy Marie followed her love for yoga all the way to its home in India in 2018, with a dream of deepening her yoga practice and becoming a yoga teacher.

She spent time travelling the country and practicing with various teachers in different disciplines. Eventually finding herself on a Yoga Alliance Certified 200 hour yoga teacher training with Trimurti Yoga in Goa, South India. Training in Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin.

Marie believes the beauty of yoga is "finding a sense of calm amid the shifting tides of daily experience and the seasons of one's life".

Marie's classes are fun, explorative and creative. Her self-practice being primarily Vinyasa Flow, Marie enjoys dynamic, fluid practices that allow the breath to replace the thinking mind as the guiding impulse behind the movement, learning to be guided from within.

In her Friday Vinyasa Flow class, she leads a fast-paced dynamic flow, moving on every breath through sequences that build strength and improve flexibility and range of motion. Expect fun transitions between poses and attempts at some more challenging poses from time to time!

In her Mindful Flow classes on Tuesdays and Sundays, she leads a more rhythmic flow along to a slower breath practice. Still moving with every breath, yet allowing students the time to be present in the movement, merge body and mind and feel the energetic flow of the practice. In these practices Marie ties in her love of Yin, leading students from movement into stillness to reflect on the movement practice, allowing the practice to settle into your body and for you to experience yourself in stillness. To integrate, rejuvenate, restore and renew.

My love of movement inspires me to teach others the joys of GYROTONIC®   GYROKINESIS® methodology. Every 'body' has the potential to go beyond what is believed to be their own physical and mental limitations. To reach a better range, quality and freedom in their daily lives.

What is known as the GYROKINESIS® method today was originally known as 'Yoga for Dancers'. It is practiced on a stool and a mat, and it is the foundation for the GYROTONIC® method. What to Expect from a GYROKINESIS® Class to move with fluidity, with focus on your breath. You will explore how the SPINE MOVES by being guided to Arch and Curl or ripple with a wave-like motion to gently and smoothly massage each individual articulating segment of the spine. You will feel how the arms and legs connect into this rhythm and how to move and coordinate your body as a whole. This class is suitable to all! You don't have to be a dancer to enjoy and experience the wonders of GYROKINESIS®

Open Qualifying organisation in new tab Rachel Cross

Rachel has had a keen interest in Complementary Therapies since the mid 1990's when she was often used as a 'Guinea Pig' by a group at Scarborough College who were studying many forms of Complementary Therapies. After having had acupuncture needles stuck in her, crystals placed on her and been prescribed tinctures to aid self healing, she decided to do some training herself and embarked on her Aromatherapy Diploma. She then subsequently qualified in Indian Head Massage and Reflexology and began practising her therapies from home whilst working part time at the local University.

A move down to Norfolk in 2003 saw Rachel take a change in her career, working one to one with vulnerable people. During this time she still did therapy work for friends and colleagues and has continued to expand her knowledge and skills and qualified as a Crystal Healing Therapist in 2011 and qualified in Deep Tissue Massage and Pregnancy Massage in January 2016. Not one to rest on her laurels, she also qualified as a 200 hour Yoga Teacher in September 2016 under the guidance of Swami Atma Gyanam Saraswati.

"Since those early days of being practised on, I was astounded by the positive results of many different forms of Complementary Therapies and my own experience working directly with people through my therapies, re-confirms all the time the positive effects they can have. I love that feeling of being able to assist someone in a very gentle yet positive way."

Rachel offers her range of Therapies from the Yoga Tree's very own consultation room and is currently teaching Yoga classes at different venues in Norwich, please check out her Facebook Page and website for further info:

Open Qualifying organisation in new tab Richard Woodall

Teaching all over the world for nearly 4 years now, Yoga for Rich is all about union and non-duality

He got into the practice when he realised that his body and his mind were often in different places, as much as his thoughts and his feelings of happiness were too.

Yoga philosophy gave Rich the space to live in a more truthful way, in union with his beliefs and ideas of life and existence. Also with more peace and acceptance of self. Living by the heart became a daily practice as well as grounding and finding space, physically and emotionally.

His Vinyasa classes are both dynamic and relaxing. He introduces a modern approach to yoga whilst fully embracing tradition and its beautiful philosophy.

The Yin classes are super super chilled; deep longer-hold postures all on the floor, laying or sitting down. Always taught, from the heart, with beautiful music and philosophical topics.

He's a true believer that yoga is for everyone. We just have to give it a try!

When he's not teaching, he's usually writing, playing the guitar and having a sing song, or finding a beach somewhere to be near the water.

Roisin Farrell (Rosie)

Rosie had a fitness mentor who inspired and encouraged her to train with the Future Fit School of Pilates.

Having suffered with a creaky back for years, she found that Pilates strengthened her back and core like no other sport she had tried. She has been delighted with the progress some of her clients have made, in short periods of time, with their balance, posture, core strength, body awareness and confidence.

She likes to fly in the face of convention and try new things and would encourage everyone to try Pilates as their new thing as the benefits are clear soon after starting.

Her classes are inclusive, mixed ability, gentle but concentrated exercise. For the gardeners, the carers, those with sore backs, knees, hips, shoulders... you get the idea!

Tess teaches a Hatha/Vinyasa inspired flow with a sprinkling of Yin and Surf inspired sequences. She teaches spontaneously from the heart with a playful whimsical style and encourages openess and laughter. Her classes suit all, but best make contact to check if you are a complete beginner. (Her SuperFlow class is intermediate)

"I like to follow the Sun with my practise and this often comes into my classroom teachings, especially in SuperFlow. At the Zenith of the year at the Summer Solstice I have a very strong Yang style going on and then, as the year progresses towards the Equinox's I find I start introducing more softer, Yin style holds, so when the Winter Solstice comes around my last class before Christmas is a deliciously sweet, candle lit Yin only practise, then, we head into the light from there again, and travel with the sun towards summer, its a natural thing."

Being a Surfer and Motorcycle Racer, Tess has a keen interest in Yoga for sport, she teaches Norwich United FC with winning results and various runners, cyclists, rowers and riders. If this interests you do get in touch for details of how Yoga can improve your game.

Open Qualifying organisation in new tab Vanessa Ponsford

Free Spirit Yoga.
Free spirits are inclined to explore life and taste new experiences that hold true to the deepest parts of themselves versus being influenced by what the masses around them are doing. They are often people who think freely and have the courage to hear their own voice and follow their own integrity. Free Spirit Yoga aims to follow these principles in our yoga practice, with influences from Forrest Yoga , Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Hatha yoga we will enjoy a practice that enables the yogi to venture deeper into asanas and try something new. Learning to listen to their bodys and discover its limitations and possibilities. I encourage each individual to understand how their body moves and work with the breath to get deeper into each posture, whilst interacting and having fun offering a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Each class will involve movement in sun salutations, pranayama (breathing) exercises to calm the mind and strengthen the body with a relaxing yoga nidra at the end of class to settle the soul.

"I have been practising yoga myself for over 10 years and trained as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Yoga kept me sane through some very dark times of my life. When I was working towards becoming an elite instructor for Bodybalance my yoga self was reignited and my longing to become a yoga teacher grew stronger. I found Atma in one of his classes and soon decided to join him for 200hr teacher training in 2014. I have experienced many different styles of yoga and have seen the benefits of yoga help not only myself but also many of my students. My style comes from the heart with a free spirit. I teach Hatha Yoga but with influences from Forrest Yoga , Ashtanga and Vinyasa. I like to be lighthearted in my teaching, encouraging interaction and enjoyment with a no fluff approach."

Vanessa offers:

  • 1-2-1 yoga sessions for £30. 1-2-1 sessions can be for the complete beginner to get to grips with yoga and how their body works. Or for rehabilitation to help the body move more easily perhaps after an accident or due to chronic illness/disability.
  • Reflexology £30 per hour. Reiki £30 per hour Reflexology is a treatment on the feet (or hands) which works on different reflexes corresponding to different areas of the body. It is believed that any areas of dis-ease in the body are caused by a block f the free flow of energy or qui. By working on these corresponding areas in the foot you can release the blockage enabling the energy to flow freely and aid a healing response.
  • Various yoga classes thoughout the week, including the Free Spirit Yoga class, and the Hatha Yoga for 55+ class.
